GOSPEL ESTUDIOS

One of the projects that best represents our approach is GOSPEL ESTUDIOS, a brand we built from scratch around responsibility, questioning how clothes are produced, distributed and consumed.

The process started with research, conversations and workshops, establishing the foundations before moving into product development.

The initial product range was composed of 14 styles with multiple variations, forming a complete overview of the developed system

Every detail was approached responsibly, including custom buttons and stoppers developed with a local producer located just two blocks from our studio, using corozo, a natural material known for its durability and properties.

On very small pieces of fabric, brand labels articulate intricate social and cultural codes. As part of our effort to question their role, we aimed to reduce ours to the bare minimum.

We started with the idea of a white-on-white label, almost blank, but this approach came with its own technical challenges: the label needed to be legible but not overt, the white had to look natural, and the overall quality had to remain high without feeling rough.

GOSPEL ESTUDIOS garments incorporate a set of construction elements that enable you to play with their volumes and forms.

GOSPEL ESTUDIOS proposal is defined in the cuts and shapes of our clothes, but even within our collective, everyone has a body, aesthetic, and style of their own. In fact, a person can experience many moods in a day and may want to style a garment differently at different occasions.

We believe it is important to be able to adapt our clothes to wear them as you wish. The exercise of figuring out how to make them your own paves the way for a deeper understanding of your wardrobe.

When GOSPEL ESTUDIOS garments arrive, they come inside out, with the seams exposed and sealed by a tack stitch —similar to those on new blazer pockets— that must be unstitched to enter the piece and wear it normally.

Once this has been done, our brand label, that comes attached by the tack stitch, is left free, so you must make a deliberate decision about what to do with it. Labels are powerful cultural artifacts which we use to define our social positions; labels make things 'branded'. We want to question that.

The design and development process was guided by responsibility, with production kept entirely between Spain and Portugal.

Every piece acknowledged the people, suppliers and processes involved throughout its creation.

All woven and technical fabrics were sourced from supplier deadstock, adapting the designs to existing materials, colors and fabric characteristics.

Concealed within a hidden layer or tucked away somewhere in certain GOSPEL ESTUDIOS garments, there is a mask that’s up to you to use, contingent on the moment’s requirements. The mask sets us free, removing the weight of our identity. Voluntarily shedding our face enables us to embrace all possible faces.

The production chain stayed responsible end to end, between Spain and Portugal. Every piece acknowledged the people, suppliers and processes involved throughout its creation.
